According to the CDC, one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. That is a staggering statistic that can make even the most lackadaisical person want to change their routine for the better.


Let’s take a look at a simple guide for bettering your heart health this February, but first, let’s understand some symptoms to watch out for.

What to Look For

Symptoms of heart disease or related issues such as heart attack can take many forms. There are issues that most people have heard of, such as chest pains, shortness of breath, and persistent cough. However, some symptoms of heart disease aren’t so common. Problems like excessive sweating, erectile dysfunction, vomiting, and dizziness can all be signs of heart issues. These tend to be the most detrimental as many people write them off as something else; something less serious. Questions like “Maybe I didn’t eat enough today” or “It’s probably just a one-time thing” can severely affect whether or not doctors catch your heart issues before they worsen.

Eating nutrient-rich foods is one of the best ways to combat heart-related issues. Many problems that can lead to heart disease and heart attack, such as obesity, can be improved by eating better. Small changes like using an air fryer to reduce how much unhealthy oil you’re ingesting or adding nutrient-packed foods like avocados or greens as a side dish can reduce your chances of heart disease. However, this does not mean going on an unhealthy diet. It’s a common misconception that things like fats or oils are bad for you. However, not all of them are. There are healthy fats that you can consume as well as oils that provide benefits to your body like olive oil.

Reduce Stress

Excessive stress can lead to numerous health problems if left unchecked. Many of us have been told to relax, or we’ll raise our blood pressure, and there’s truth to that. Stressful situations can cause your blood vessels to narrow and reduce how much blood goes to your heart. Stress can also affect your sleep pattern causing additional issues as studies show that sleep deprivation has been linked to diabetes, inflammation, and obesity. Sleep deprivation or insomnia can deprive your body of that precious time that it needs to rejuvenate.

Don’t write off your symptoms as unimportant if they aren’t things you normally experience. Go to a trusted health professional so they can either ease your fears or get you the help you need. While it may be embarrassing to go to the doctors over something simple like erectile dysfunction or excessive sweating, it may not even be as severe as you believe. It can be as simple as the doctor prescribing some ed meds or recommending you a prescription antiperspirant. Even if it’s something more serious, finding medical issues earlier is always better as it can prevent heart attacks and more.
