Foods for a Healthy Bladder



Men are about three times more likely to develop bladder cancer compared to women. Maintaining a healthy bladder is vital to prevent cancer as well as other complications. Incorporating foods that aid in bladder health into your diet may prevent bladder cancer and promote your overall health.

 

These beneficial foods for bladder health include:

 

1.     Cranberries

Cranberry juice is a common natural remedy for a urinary tract infection because cranberries make your urine more acidic, preventing bacteria.

2.     Blueberries

Usually, weak or damaged kidneys have difficulty removing sodium, potassium, and phosphorous from your blood but blueberries contain low amounts of these compounds and have high antioxidant properties.

3.     Cauliflower

Containing many anti-inflammatory compounds, cauliflower can help control inflammation throughout the body including the urinary tract.

4.     Probiotics

Probiotic-rich foods such as yogurt support healthy bacteria in the gut as well as the urinary tract. This can prevent infections and maintain bladder health.

5.     Whole grains

Whole grains such as brown rice, oats, or quinoa contain high fiber quantities, reducing pressure on the bladder by regulating the digestive system.

6.     Protein

10.  Decaffeinated green tea

Caffeine can irritate the bladder, but green tea contains antioxidants that have been found to have anti-cancer properties. Regular consumption of decaffeinated green tea can reduce the risk of cancer, including bladder cancer.

1.     Bananas and potatoes contain many nutrients but are both high in potassium so they should be consumed in moderation

2.     Spicy foods can irritate the bladder lining, causing discomfort

3.     Acidic foods, like citrus fruits and their juices and tomatoes or tomato products, can irritate the bladder so they should be consumed in moderation.

 

Lifestyle Tips for a Health Bladder

 

1.     Avoiding smoking

Smoking is a major risk factor for bladder cancer and quitting can reduce your risk.

2.     Limit alcohol and caffeine intake

Alcohol and caffeine can irritate the bladder and increase the frequency of urination.

3.     Staying hydrated

Consuming enough water helps to excrete toxins to maintain healthy bladder function, a general rule is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day.

 

Preventing infection is essential for bladder health and regular visits to your physician to discover any bladder issues early. These foods and lifestyle choices promote urinary tract health as well as overall bodily function.
