Sodium? In my Protein Shake?

Sodium is very important for our bodies to function. Our bodies need a small amount to do things like conduct nerve impulses, contract and relax muscles, and maintain a balance between water and minerals. So obviously making sure to have some sodium in your diet is important, but there is a risk when you consume an excess of sodium. Having too much sodium in a day can lead to high blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease. This is because having a higher blood pressure makes your heart have to work even harder than normal which can cause damage.

According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, adults should have 2,300 mg of sodium or less daily. However, the FDA reports that adults consume 3,400 mg of sodium daily (1). That’s a big difference! Consistently consuming excess sodium can also lead to your body holding onto water. Too much of this could also potentially raise your blood pressure and harm your heart, kidneys, or liver because they will have to work harder! By limiting your sodium intake, you can reduce that feeling of holding water and being bloated.

With only 149 mg of sodium in a carton, EO3 has 41 to 241mg LESS sodium compared to the majority of brands and flavors of protein shakes found inside a GNC. When you drink an EO3, you won’t get that puffy feeling that comes with having too much sodium. We ALL know that feeling, it happens when you’ve eaten way too many potato chips or have a big fast-food meal. Being able to know that I can drink an EO3 and receive all the great nutritional benefits without worrying about excessively exceeding sodium in a day is such a relief and helps build my confidence in a day that I’m making the best choices for my body.
